Technical Project Manager
Orlando, FL
In collaboration with the project team the Project Manager will plan, direct and
coordinate project team activities to ensure the objectives of the project plan are
accomplished according to customer specifications and within established delivery and budget goals. The Project Manager has ultimate responsibility for project performance and is the main interface with the customer, the project team and company management.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the creation of customer contract proposals
- Review customer contracts for accuracy, budget and delivery feasibility
- With the project team, create and execute project plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements
- Identify resources needed and assign individual responsibilities
- Manage the creation and execution of the project technical approach
- Manage the day-to-day operational aspects of the project and scope
- Conduct project team meetings to monitor status, identify, resolve and/or escalate issues and ensure project tasks are being completed on time
- Facilitate technical ideas sessions and problem solving sessions
- Manage the project budget, purchasing activities and labor allocation
- Conduct customer status meetings and technical design review meetings
- Manage project sub-contractors and suppliers
- Report project status to customers and company management
- Ensure project documents are complete, current and stored appropriately
- Ensure timely and accurate customer invoicing
Qualifications:
- Qualified candidates must have a minimum 5 years experience leading customers and team members through large complex technical development projects involving optical systems, preferably laser systems and/or laser applications
- Minimum bachelors degree; with 8-10 years work related experience in a relevant technical discipline
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, analytical problem solving skills, short term and long term planning skills
- Demonstrated track record of successful project planning and execution in a
multidisciplinary technical environment
- Government funded project management experience preferred
- PMP or equivalent certification preferred
- Software: MS Project, MS Office
- Ability to travel ~ 25%

- Project planning and execution skills including; task definition, scheduling,
resource planning, supervision, progress tracking, and project status reporting.
- Set and manage customer expectations
- Promote scientific rigor within the company’s R&D team.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Supplier and technical consultant liaison and direction
Functional Mastery:
Possess extensive expertise and practical experience leading customers and team
members through large complex technical development projects involving optical,
electrical and mechanical systems. The ideal candidate will be well organized, have great follow-up skills, be process oriented, be able to multi-task, have a logical thought process, be able to determine root causes, have good analytical ability, be a good estimator and budget manager and have good self-discipline.
