Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer

The Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer is a member of a small technical team developing and commercializing the next generation of ultra-short pulse laser systems..

Responsibilities:

Play a key role in optical mechanical design, analysis, and implementation of both fiber based and free space systems.

  • Conceptualize, analyze, design, document, qualify and introduce new products successfully.
  • Responsible for all optical mechanical aspects of the design.
  • Perform and manage all environmental testing, compliance testing, regulatory testing and customer interactions for external validation.
  • Actively participate in future product development discussions and perform new technology investigations as required.
  • Optimize the supply chain for low cost, quality and continuous process/product improvement.
  • This position reports to the Director of Science and Technology.
  • Work directly with Application Specialists and customers to perform custom design, implementation and integration on a fast schedule. Previous experience with linear and rotational computer controlled systems, focusing optics and high accuracy optical servo design preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum BSME. MSME preferred. 8 years minimum commercial experience.
  • CAD expert, 8 years minimum experience, SolidWorks preferred.
  • Competent user of all analysis software for thermal, structural and environmental ruggedness, CosmosWorks and Cosmos FlowWorks preferred.
  • Analysis and problem solver expert. Proven track record of solving issues including CTE
    mismatch, material selection, microscopic material deformations and effects, kinematic design, high precision attach methods, elimination of all environmental effects from attach methods and alignment/mounting methods and light coupling/redirecting and controlling methodology.
  • Competent user of all optical instrumentation including optical spectrum analyzers, reflectometers, interferometers, return loss/insertion loss meters, wavemeters, autocorrelators and free space alignment of bulk components for evaluation.
  • Competent user of instrumentation to determine resonance performance, stiffness and bandwidth of servo mechanisms. Experience with selection of mechanical, optical and electrical feedback methods preferred.
  • Proven track record of documentation excellence, integrating in design changes from the entire development team, and working with vendors to optimize their process and success.
  • Successfully drive early environmental and functional testing to minimize design changes during formal qualification. Proactive design evaluation required.

Leadership/Management Skills:

  • Successful team player with experience in managing junior engineers and technicians to achieve design and schedule goals.
  • Maturity, drive and diplomacy of a very experienced senior engineer.
  • Works well individually and in groups. Must prioritize design/schedule changes well and be willing to make informed decisions with significant impact.
  • No direct supervision of personnel required.

Travel:

Travel to the Orlando corporate office on a quarterly basis may be required.
