An acclaimed Internet pioneer, Barry Schuler has developed emerging technologies into successful enterprises for the last 25 years. A serial entrepreneur, his career spans breakthroughs in early video games, computer graphics, Interactive media, e-commerce, consumerization of the Internet and most recently Ultra-short Pulse Lasers.
Schuler spent eight years with AOL, where he was the architect of the consumer experience that brought the Internet into the lives of more than 25 million households. After performing in several roles of increasing responsibility, during AOL’s explosive growth, Schuler ultimately served as Chairman and CEO during the height of the company’s reach and influence.
Prior to AOL, Schuler was CEO and co-founder of multimedia development firm Medior Inc. until its acquisition by AOL in 1995. Under his leadership, Medior pioneered the use of interactive multimedia for applications such as electronic commerce, entertainment, and corporate information systems. The company designed the America Online interface that ultimately made AOL leading consumer online service.
Currently, Schuler is Executive Chairman of the Board of Raydiance, Inc., and is a Managing Director of The DFJ Growth fund, a global venture capital firm. He serves as a Director on the Boards of Raydiance, Inc., Hands-on Mobile Entertainment, Synthetic Genomics, Inc., UBMatrix And UUSEE.
Schuler is an avid supporter of educational innovation and reform. He is co-founder of The Blue Oak School, Napa Valley’s only independent progressive school, and currently leading a project to help transform public school systems.
Schuler is a graduate of Rutgers University and a member of the Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni
Mel Engle

Mel Engle joins Raydiance after six years at Dey LP, where he was the firm’s President and CEO. Dey LP, a Napa-based specialty pharmaceutical company, is focused on the development and commercialization of products for respiratory, allergy and other breathing disorders. Engle was instrumental in transforming Dey’s company strategy from commodity generics to branded products, resulting in five consecutive years of growth. During Engle’s tenure, sales increased from $250 million to over $600 million.
In October 2007, parent company Merck KGaA sold all the assets of the Merck Generics Group (which included Dey LP) to Mylan Laboratories for nearly $7 billion after a lengthy auction process.
From 2006 to 2007, as Regional Director, North America (Merck Generics Group), Engle was responsible for all of Merck Generic’s North American businesses, specifically Dey LP, Genpharm, Inc. (Canada) and Genpharm, LP (US). Engle was responsible for sales in excess of $800 million, and managed over 1200 employees. Additionally, he was a key member of the Merck Generics Executive Management Committee (EMC), where he shared worldwide responsibility with only six other EMC members in running the $2.5 billion division of Merck KGaA.
The Napa Chamber of Commerce and State of California honored Dey as “2004 Napa Business of the Year” for its record of success, community involvement and local volunteerism and, in 2007, Engle was named, “Citizen of the Year.”
Prior to Dey, Engle held CEO positions with two small, public, medical device companies: Anika Therapeutics, located in Woburn, MA, specializing in the development, manufacturing and marketing of orthobiologic, ophthalmic and anti-adhesion products, and US Medical Products, an artificial implant orthopedics company, located in Austin, TX.
From 1980 to 1994, Engle was a senior executive with Allergan, Inc. where he held positions of CFO, Managing Director (located in Toronto) and Senior VP (Latin America/Canada and, later, US Sales). During this time period, Allergan developed, manufactured and marketed branded Rx, surgical, diagnostic equipment and OTC ophthalmic and dermatological products, and had initially launched Botox, with limited indications.
Engle received an MBA from USC and a BS (Accounting) from the University of Colorado. He also received a diploma from the “Merck University Executive Education” program in 2006. He is on the Board of Directors of Visicon Inspection Technologies (Napa, CA), and sits on the board of several local non-profit organizations (Queen of the Valley Medical Center Foundation, Napa Valley Community Foundation, and Napa College Foundation). Engle, his wife and their son live in Napa. Engle’s other two children are grown and live in Belgium and Colorado.
Scott Davison

Mr. Davison is a second-generation Silicon Valley entrepreneur who specializes in bringing early-stage transformative technologies to mass markets. Before helping to found Raydiance, Mr. Davison was Senior Vice President of America Online, where he was responsible for developing strategic business plans for AOL and Time Warner’s diverse digital media businesses. During his eight year tenure at AOL, Davison also held senior operating positions over AOL Productions, AOL Creative Services (daily publication of the AOL Service) and Netscape Communications.
Before his tenure at AOL, Davison was a Vice president and General Manager for Medior, Inc., which was acquired by America Online in 1995. Medior pioneered the use of interactive multimedia for applications such as electronic commerce, entertainment, and corporate information systems. The company designed the America Online interface that ultimately made AOL leading consumer online service.
Prior to Medior, Mr. Davison held senior positions with leading software companies Autodesk and Symantec, with responsibility over such areas as product development, product marketing, advertising and public relations. Early in his career, Mr. Davison worked with Imedia Corporation, a pioneer of PC-based business graphics and interactive information management technologies.
Mr. Davison is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley.
Bruce Garreau

Mr. Garreau serves as the Company’s chief financial officer and also oversees all compliance programs on Raydiance’s government contracts. Garreau comes to Raydiance from Infinite Photonics, where he was CFO of both the subsidiary and its publicly traded parent company Infinite Group Inc. Prior to that, he held several senior financial positions in the financial services and audit consulting industries, including Consulting Principal with Corporate Financial Group (financial, M&A, strategy services to emerging technology companies) and executive vice president/controller at the largest publicly traded thrift institution in New England (acquired by Fleet Bank). Garreau was also a senior manager at KMG for publicly traded financial and technology companies and is a CPA

John H. N. Fisher is a Managing Director of Draper Fisher Jurvetson. On behalf of Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Mr. Fisher serves on the boards of CMI Marketing, ContextWeb, Hands On Mobile (formerly MFORMA), Raydiance, and Visto. He served on the boards of Selectica (NASDAQ: SLTC), C2B until its acquisition by Inktomi (INKT), Convoy before its acquisition by Neon/Sybase (SY), Medior until its acquisition by America OnLine (AOL), RightPoint before its acquisition by E.piphany (EPNY), Soundview Technology Group (SNDV) before its acquisition by Charles Schwab Corp (SCHW), Safeview until its acquisition by L3 Communications, and Webline until its acquisition by Cisco (CSCO). On behalf of various DFJ funds, Mr. Fisher sourced Baidu (BIDU), Hotmail (acquired by MSFT), United OnLine (UNTD), and Combinet (acquired by CSCO). He was also an investor in Software Quality Automation (SQAX) before its acquisition by Rational Software (RATL). In addition, Mr. Fisher serves on the board of DFJ ePlanet Ventures and on the Investment Committees of DFJ Growth Fund and DFJ New England. Previously, Mr. Fisher worked at ABS Ventures, where he was responsible for much of the firm’s investment efforts in computer software and services. In addition to his venture capital experience, Mr. Fisher gained investment industry experience at Alex. Brown & Sons and Bank of America. Mr. Fisher graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard College, and has an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Senator William “Bill” Bradley

Senator William W. Bradley is a Managing Director of Allen & Company LLC. From 2001-2004, he acted as chief outside advisor to McKinsey & Company’s nonprofit practice. He was a Senior Advisor and Vice Chairman of the International Council of JP Morgan & Co., Inc. from 1997-1999. During that time, he also worked as an essayist for CBS evening news, a visiting professor at Stanford University, Notre Dame University and the University of Maryland. Senator Bradley served in the U.S. Senate from 1979 – 1997 representing the state of New Jersey. In 2000, he was a candidate for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States. Prior to serving in the Senate, he was an Olympic gold medalist in 1964 and a professional basketball player with the New York Knicks from 1967 – 1977 during which time they won 2 NBA championships. Senator Bradley holds a BA degree in American History from Princeton University and an MA degree from Oxford University where he was a Rhodes Scholar. He has authored six books on American politics, culture and economy, including the recently published, “The New American Story”.

Dr. Goldblatt joined has over 20 years of experience in the areas of biotechnology, product development, and regulatory affairs. From 1999 to 2003, he served as Director of Defense Sciences at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) where he laid the foundation to make biological research an integral part of the Department of Defense. This includes programs to defend against biological threats and leverage biology to enhance both defense systems and human performance. Prior to his work with the Department of Defense, Dr. Goldblatt spent 12 years with McDonald’s Corporation as the Science and Technology Officer where he had broad responsibilities in the areas of nutrition, product development, food safety, and corporate venture capital. In his capacity with General Foods, he led research efforts in the use of nutrients for pharmaceutical effects and oversaw a variety of regulatory and legal issues. Dr. Goldblatt received his B.A. from Reed College and his Ph.D. and J.D. from the University of California, Davis.

Mr. McCleary has served as White House Aide, Treasurer of the Democratic Party, President of the Sawyer - Miller Group, and President of the Institute for Asian Democracy. He has served as a consultant to the Department of State and advised the Presidents and Prime Ministers [or candidates for these offices] in Israel, Colombia, Philippines, Costa Rica, Nigeria, Greece, South Korea, Spain, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Panama, and Ecuador on matters of political importance. As a private investor he Co-founded Drinks That Work and Kava Pharmaceuticals Inc. with Dr. Peter Staats, Director of the John Hopkins University Pain Center. Currently he is founder and Chairman of Pharmathene Inc. and Managing General Partner of Four Seasons Ventures, where he is focusing on “National Defense Production” issues in bio-defense for the Department of Defense. Mr. McCleary is a member of the Advisory Board of Harvard Medical School and serves on the board of directors of the International Campaign for Tibet.
